Two revolvers in one

I'm not very up on who makes what so pls beer with me, hahaha. Is there a mfg that makes a DA/SA revolver in .22LR and .38 (or 357) where the revolvers are virtually identical except for caliber? I'd be nice to have two rev's with the same action/feel/wt? Thnx

Ruger SP101. The .22 has been discontinued but they are around from time to time on the used market.

I've been out of the new market for some time, but I'd be sniffing around Taurus for that kind of package.

Smith and Wesson K-frame Target Masterpiece series, K-22, K-32, and K-38, or the model 15 combat masterpiece in 22, 22mag (rare), 38spl...and the K-frame model 19 in .357 mag. Or the newer K or L frame model 617 (22) and model 686 (357)

The biggest problem with double action .22 revolvers is scarcity, it seems the only ones available are el cheapo versions.
If you find a S+W or Ruger DA .22 you better buy it while you can. They were scarce even before the election. Don't ask me why.

The Taurus is only "borderline" el cheapo. Maybe that's your best bet if you don't mind imports. It would be awful close to a K frame in feel.

I had a S+W model 63 once, but the timing was off among other things. Finding one of those in good condition would be quite a find. I couldn't find a S+W gunsmith in my area so I sold it.

Maybe because a .22 handgun has no real utility.

The 22 is THE assasins gun.

Walk up behind victim

Pull weapon from jacket pocket

PAP!!

Return weapon to jacket pocket.

Continue walking like nothing occured.

Done.

Israeli Mossad agents use the Ruger MkII .22 LR for social work. Double-taps to the back of the head. No fuss, no muss.

Tanks everyone,

I was just looking at prices on gunbroker, OUCH. For that much I could just get another .38/357 or reloading setup and load squibs or even a .22auto. The idea was to save money by shootin .22's and a trainer/plinker for the wife/kids. Well, I'll just keep an eye open for deal at the pawn shop. It would be sweet to have a paired .22 .38/357 revolvers; similar fit/feel/trigger.

+1 on the .22 as an assassins choice but that's not why I'm after one.

You'd have to get them used, and they ain't cheap, but the S&W model 18 .22lr and S&W model 19 .357 magnum are about the perfect match. They even weigh and balance the same. With identical grips, you can't tell which is which with your eyes closed.

I have the S&W 686 in 6" 357 and the 617 in 6" 22LR....they are identical except for calibre. Bought the 617 to become a DA revolver expert without reloading.....wanted it to be identical to my 357.

I wish S&W did not put the full lug under the barrel.....wish it just covered the ejector cane.....a more classic look. The 629 I have looks just the same but in a larger frame (44Mag) - deer killing machine......but heavy 357 loads in the 686 would also do the job.

If you are a single action fan.....get a Ruger single six with 22LR and 22 Mag cylinders.....become a SA expert on the cheap with 22LR ....and the 22 Mag is a pretty nice round for killing larger animals like tough ground hogs small wild pigs, coyote....it has a little more than 2X the power of a 22LR.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest, but you beat me to it.

I'm the only one who shoots S&W J-frames, aren't I? :bawling:

The S&W Model 317 in .22LR is almost exactly like the Model 637 in .38 Special. Same barrel lengths, same aluminum frames, same grips.

Personally, I have the Model 60 .357/.38 and the Model 63 in .22 LR, in stainless steel, with the only difference between them being I have the model 60 in 3" barrel, and the model 63 in 5" barrel. I got them for the same reason you seem to be after: being able to shoot the much cheaper ammo in a gun that feels the same as my primary defense gun (well, one of them anyway  ).

S&W revolvers can be pricey, yes, but I consider them the most important part of my preparations for the uncertain future. (With ammo being the second most important!) I haven't regreted spending the money. (well, it wasn't money, it was just those green pieces of paper)

Just did that 2 weeks ago and love it. 6 inch. Fun little shooter. The LR cylinder is nice for cheap practice. As you said, the mag has a pretty good hit.
